The way I currently see this is that "purge" is supposed to remove all
tracks of the package from your system and I'm not sure if this warrants
introducing an, imho, rather annoying debconf question. If you want to
keep your data (including configuration), you should use "remove" rather
than "purge". OTOH, removing collected data is really annoying as well …

I guess, I'll see if I can find out about "best practices" regarding
that kind of issue.
