Yep, the network protocols of the two versions are incompatible - that's
one of the reasons for the major version bump.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any precompiled 4.x packages for
kamikaze. 4.1 packages for whiterussian would have been available on the
collectd website [1]. However, up-to-date source packages are available
in the "OpenWRT development center" [2].
