[collectd] dpkg stalling on a loaded collectd aggregator

Helo,

Am running into a weird situation. On a very loaded collectd aggregation
server (high disk IO, minimal CPU load), dpkg pkg installs tends to get
blocked on disk forever. The dpkg process spins back to life if I stop the
collectd server.

The OS is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with the latest -server kernel. I am yet to play
around with the various disk schedulers available in Ubuntu (CFQ, deadline
etc).

Anybody else run into this problem?
