your ted.c file was very outdated. As far as I could see, the changes I
did were not included in that file at all.. Did you maybe send the wrong
file?

Could you maybe get and build this version:
  <http://verplant.org/temp/collectd-4.6.1.ted0.tar.bz2>
If you need further changes, please base them on that version. Thanks :)

Did you see the `Retries' option? It's documented in the
collectd.conf(5) manual page in the `ted' plugin section.
