Hi everybody,

I'm pleased to announce that I've finally started some bigger changes
that will, eventually, result in version 4.

The most important change will be a change in the plugin interface. Not
that it was ever subject to backward-compatibility issues, it simply
allows for plugins which break with older concepts. Plugins will be able
to provite `write'-functionality, analogous to the `read'-functions.
Consequently the `modes' will be done away with and the functionality
will be put in the plugins `rrdtool', `network' and `csv'. One of the
advantages is that you will be able to send the output to multiple such
plugins, e. g. `rrdtool' and `network', another one is that receiving
network traffic and collecting local statistics can be done with only
one daemon running.

And now comes *your* part: If you have an issue that has bugged you, but
that couldn't be fixed due to backwards-compatibility issues, please
tell me now.

If you're curious or want to help, pull the `collectd-4' branch from the
git repository.

Regards,
-octo
