okay, Niki was right, this _is_ kind of messy.. If anyone wants to
double check please take a look at `common.c' (at the functions
`check_create_dir' and `strjoin' in particular) and tell me if you've
found any problems..

If you don't want to checkout the svn just for that go to
<http://svn.verplant.org/> which is a web frontend for the svn
reporitory.
