There might be a chance that your ipmitool version being the issue. Even though the kernel was updated, the dependencies might still persisted with similar issues.
Worth retrying once with all updated software.

Is this a real solution for Intel S5500BC or standard reply when old versions is used? I will update everything with time of course but the problem has survived more than one update. :-)

I just had time to look a little more closely now and I wrote about problem at last.
