[collectd] C++ Client Library

Hi,

I want to use collectd client library so that my C++ application can send
stats periodically to collectd server. Can I get some information regarding
this - any implementation examples?
1) Can I send the data on-demand to collectd server
2) Can I send data periodically (will it be push from client or pull from
server)
