[collectd] Python plugin — how to control Graphite metric's name?

Hello!

I'm writing a plug-in to submit some "gauge"-type values to Graphite. 
Things work, but the string "gauge-" ends up being part of each metric's 
name in Graphite — is there any way to avoid that?
