[collectd] Switching on debug

Can anyone clue me in on with how to switch on the DEBUG function in the
routines in util_format_json file? I'd assumed that --enable-debug on the
configure step (I'm building from source obviously) along with setting
debug level on LogFile plug in would do it, but I'm only getting [debug]
output from the plugin.c modules.

I'm trying to code up another output format for write_kafka using the
existing JSON code as a guide, but the output from my new routines is being
scrambled and I need to track down where the corruption is coming from.
