Depends on your rrdcached config.

My experience with collectd+rrdcached:
I set it up, but I noticed it caused spikes in IOPS which blurred
interesting events on servers. Therefore I switched back and settled for
constant 10 IOPS.

I use it successfully for ganglia though, with arguments "-w 10800 -z 3600
-f 36000 -t 10".
