well, the thing is that I want a general solution, one that works with
arbitrary `Interval' settings.

I'm sure that the filesize can be reduced (iIrc my previous mail
included some proposals) - I'm just not sure which one is the most
elegant solution. But don't worry, it's on my todo list for 4.4.
